Customers of a southside furniture store are fired up!

They're down right ticked off with the owner of The Furniture and Rug Outlet (4000
S. I-35 Service Road)...and for good reason! Apparently, the owner...Jimmy King...shut down the place without notifying any of his customers first. He did finally post a notice on the front door....here's that notice in its entirety:
"Due to a unforeseen emergency we had to temporarily close for business. We will reopen this Wednesday 1/6/2010. Sorry for any problems and inconvenience this has caused you. We will be contacting all of our customers after reopening to discuss and make arrangements personally."
Sincerely-Furniture and Rug Outlet.

Well, that doesn't really explain why King did what he did without warning. Our investigation lead us to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Turns out--King no longer has his ales tax permit...therefore he couldn't open tomorrow even if he wanted to. The state couldn't/wouldn't comment on the matter any further. So far, we haven't been able to reach King...although we've tried a number of times. The notice he posted on the door says he plans to reopen his store Wednesday (that's tomorrow if you're reading this on 1/5/2010)...we'll see about that. We plan to stop by either way.

  1. I happen to be one of the many people that have been scammed by this "furniture company" I got lucky and caught the 2 men that run this place on Monday at the store. They told me that the company they went through went out of business. The reason for their closure is no family emergency! They refused to give me my money back and also refused to give me other products in return. They told me the products in the their store were not theirs.. They also informed me that they were at a bigger loss than I was. They then proceeded to tell me that they will reopen on Wednesday Jan 6 2010 and that I would be able to get my money back then, but refused to give me any kind of legal document stating they would give it back. I'm hoping to go up to the store tomorrow and get my money back but I have a bad feeling about the whole situation..

  2. I'm one of the unlucky customers too. We paid $1200 CASH for new furniture. We received half of our order on time, and we were happy campers. We were told that we'd get the other half by December 31st at the latest. We called repeatedly and went by the store several times last week - we never got a hold of anyone despite our efforts, and we never received communication from anyone at the store. It's beyond frustrating. We work hard for our money, and then to save up and pay cash for something you don't get... well, it's maddening. I don't care WHAT kind of emergency came up, avoiding customers isn't the answer. It's shady! We plan on going up there today after work, and for their sake I hope they're open. We won't leave without our cash back or our furniture.

  3. P.S. King has a warrant through Oklahoma County for back taxes. Imagine that.
